August 15, 2008 by erich16“The Entertainment Lawyer Presentation” Sherry Gillard
August 14, 2008 by erich1608/13/08
Today we had a lawyer named Sherry Gillard who came to the SVI buildg in Seattle,WA to tell us alot about what you need a Entertainment lawyer for and how you benefit from it, how you can get robbed by signing a contract that doesn’t apply to you. She also said for Athletes, Hip-Hop Artists, R&B Artists, Actors, Actresses etc. in the media buisness you should always have a Entertainment lawyer to look over your contracts and meetings so you wont be tricked into something because of false info.
Ms. Gillard also told us that she came from a single parent home, that one of her brothers was in jail, and that she was the first to graduate from college in her family.
She seemed like a normal person, with normal people issues, who overcame alot personality, life, and educational wise. She was what I hope for all my phenominal sisters, a young black woman who had her college degree and was doing good for herself. She inspired me alot with staying in school, she said that whenever her teacher would call on anyone that they would have to stand and present what he asked, no sitting down when being a lawyer, she said when your in school to be a lawyer, you have no time for going out with friends, just time for studying and focus on the books, she also said that it was expensive for your study books, so for those who want to be a lawyer here’s some heads up
The City of Seattle Council Meeting ” Making Your Voice Count”
August 13, 2008 by erich16o8/11/08
2 days ago “Think Tank” and “SYEP” program groups went to downtown Seattle to make a public comment to the councilmen, about our black communities, how to make them better, how to send the message out about non- anti drugs and gang violence in the black communities of the Central District and Southend of Seattle, WA.
We had to cut our 2minute speehes down to a minute because of how many people were on the “public comment” list and how much time we had, so that was sort of a challenge and a learning experience of preparation.
After each Youth Intern, from each group program said there public comment, we left on behalf of the uproar, from the other groups, disagreeing on a another issue in the Council Chamber.
After that we all took photos and video camcordered each other about how we felt about the council meeting and our community, what it is coming to for our youth and our future.
“AMANDA DIVA” TEACHINGS OF MUSIC AND BEING AN ARTIST
August 7, 2008 by erich1608-05-08
All the Seattle Youth Employment, Think Tank, and other Youth Interns were waiting for the Artist and Poet “Amanda Diva” to show up, and finally she did, she had a very energetic entrance and had alot of positive influential subjects, artistic poetry, and Hip- Hop education to talk about. I learned alot about who are the two most known artist’s in the world, which is “Bob Marley” and ” Tupac Shakur”, which is not hard to believe, because both of them didn’t just talk about money, sex, drugs, clubs, cribs, and jewelry, they talked about what was really reality, what was really going on in our society, they spoke the truth and were great poets. We also talked about “Police Brutality” towards blacks, because color is still a huge issue in America, and the police is very disliked in the black community because of there hatred, racism and brutality towards the people who are human and have families just like them, because when these officers take off there badges there still human like us. Evethough they can make up to $6,000 a month! for just doing what they do huh! But overall this is what i learned and also not to use the “N” word, eventhough I don’t, because it’s a word that degrades “Blacks” and is nothing to call each other if we don’t want others to call us. Oh! and if you are interested in hearing “Amanda Diva’s” music, go to myspace.com/AmandaDiva.
Thank You
Umoja Fest 2008 in Seattle, WA Judkins Park Aug. 1st-3rd
August 6, 2008 by erich16Wush Poppin everybody,
Well im writing this blog to tell everyone who doesn’t no about the “Umoja Fest” and for those who know about it, but didn’t go. The 2008 Umoja Fest Aug.1st-3rd at Judkins Park Seattle,wa was crackin, it had alot of Entertainment, Games, Rides, Food, and a Positive message for the Black Youth to hear, this message was to enlighten our youth to not get into “Gang Violence” and “Drugs” and to stay in school, to stay in a positive state of mind and i think this year the Festival was more popular than it’s been in awhile and that the message got out to the youth alot.
My expericence with the ”Umoja Fest” was energetic, fun and entertaining. I had to manage 2 activities and volunteer security for 2 nights straight. I think that eventhough I did alot of work I had fun and helped my community, because thats what it is all about, making a difference!:)
